POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Executive Director, Development and Alumni Services, the Director of Special Events (DSE) develops, plans, and implements a complex annual calendar of 40+ events to increase the engagement and participation of donors and prospects.
The DSE manages a staff of four full-time equivalents as well as numerous volunteers.
The position is classified at level MSP II.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide a broad range of event planning services for the university,
schools, and clinical programs.
* Manage select major campus ceremonies.
* Serve as the primary campus resource for general event planning issues,
protocols, administrative policies, and federal regulations related to events.
* Serve as the university's liaison with community organizations producing
events benefiting UCSF.
* Develop unique event programs that appeal to targeted audiences and align with
institutional goals.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* At least five years progressively responsible event planning experience, preferably within an academic or health care
setting
* Experience conceiving, planning, implementing, and analyzing a wide variety of
events for various constituencies
* Superb creative and communication skills
* In-depth knowledge of protocol and resources required to ensure appropriate
engagement of diplomats and VIPs
* Understanding of IRS, FTB, HIPAA, and other government regulations as they
relate to special events
* Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel periodically
* Ability to obtain security clearance through a fingerprinting and background
check
* Bachelor's degree and experience in non-profits or
an equivalent combination of education and experience
