The Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA) is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors that support the strategic initiatives of Mills College. The strategic initiatives include supporting student scholarships, maintaining preeminence in the arts, encouraging leadership for women in the professions, as well as advancing women in science, technology and research. OIA consists of individual giving programs such as annual, major, and planned gifts as well as foundation and corporate giving. Gift processing and donor relations are also a part of OIA.

Position Overview

The Director of the Mills College Annual Fund will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors for unrestricted gifts to Mills College. 

Reporting Relationships

The position reports to the Senior Director of Alumnae Relations and Annual Giving. The position supervises an associate director and an outreach program manager.

Responsibilities

* Manage the Mills College Fund -- supervise staff and develop and implement budget and work plan.
* Develop overall strategy for direct mail, email and telemarketing programs.
* Prepare statistical reports on the Mills College Fund for planning and evaluation of the program.
* Regularly monitor reports to determine progress towards fundraising goals. Assess fundraising strategies based on statistical data and revise strategies as needed.
* Collaborate with Senior Director of Alumnae Relations and Annual Giving and Associate Director of Reunion Planning and Giving on the strategy and implementation of successful annual reunion class gift campaigns.
* Hire, supervise, and train Mills Fund Associate Director and Telemarketing Manager.
* Recruit, motivate, train, and manage the Cyrus and Susan Mills Society (CSMS) volunteer solicitor committee, which focuses on gifts of $1,500 and above.
* Manage a small portfolio of prospects for higher end annual gifts.
* Plan and implement annual CSMS recognition events.
* Ensure that the Mills College Fund meets the objectives of the OIA strategic plan.
* Work with major and planned gifts staff to facilitate a seamless pipeline of donors and volunteers to the major and planned gifts program.
* Collaborate with the Senior Director of Communications to ensure that all communications match the College's overall marketing and branding.
* Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development Strategies and Services to ensure proper stewardship of gifts to the Mills College Fund.
* Establish and document policies and procedures for the operation of the Mills College Annual Fund.
* Promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.
* Promote and sustain the ability of staff members to deliver quality customer service in all aspects of job performance.
* Promote safe work practices within each area of responsibility, enforce safety rules, and assure employee compliance with all safety rules and guidelines.
* Perform related duties as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

* Five to seven years of successful experience in raising unrestricted gift support from individuals
* Demonstrated experience supervising and leading staff and volunteers
* Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
* Capacity to engender creativity, energy, enthusiasm and ambition in a team environment
* Ability to proactively, effectively, and efficiently lead a program 
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
* Willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends
* Commitment to the mission of Mills College
* Proven ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of external constituents
* Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with other members of the Mills College team
* Bachelor’s degree
