Thank you for your interest in non-profit executive positions.  Please understand that we are hired by organizations to fill specific jobs and that we are not a placement service or employment agency.  As a result, we cannot provide you with individual attention or career advice.  However, we have provided some general advice below, and we hope you will find this helpful.

If a specific position is of interest, please send your resume and cover letter to the e-mail address listed for that position in the Job Listings section of our web site.  If you do not wish to be considered for a position that is currently open, but would like to be considered for future openings, feel free to send your resume to us at resumes@pamelacook.com.  If a position opens in the future for which you seem particularly qualified, we suggest that you apply for that position at that time as well.

Our best advice for job seekers can be summarized in one word: network!

Take courses, volunteer, do informational interviews, let people know you are looking. Review websites of organizations in which you are interested. Consider joining a board or volunteering to assist on a special project.

Review job descriptions in publications and web sites like The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Opportunity Knocks, and Craig's List. This will give you an idea of specific jobs, skill sets, and salaries. Think about the kind of non-profit in which you might be interested  (education, environment, healthcare, etc.) and the size organization that suits you(large and established, or small and dynamic)

There are a number of organizations that serve non-profits.  To find out more about non-profits in Northern California, visit their web sites and find out more about how you can work with them.  They include:

Association of Fundraising Professionals- Golden Gate Chapter and Silicon Valley Chapter
Development Executives' Roundtable
Young Nonprofit Professionals' Network
The Foundation Center
Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership of Marin

Courses are offered by the University of San Francisco and Indiana University. Non-profit courses are part of the MBA curriculum at UC Berkeley and Stanford and other programs throughout the Bay Area.

There are some interesting national websites on non-profits. The Charity Channel is worth a look. Also, Guidestar offers detailed financial information about individual organizations.

We perform searches for non-profit organizations and for corporations seeking community relations professionals. Check the Job Listings page of our website frequently. In busy periods, we may add up to five new searches in a month.

Best wishes,

Pam
