The VP for Fund Development will lead a comprehensive range of development functions focusing on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual prospects and donors, auxiliaries and corporations. The VP will work with the President to develop the organization's overall development strategy. He or she will establish and manage an expanding portfolio of donors who are among the organization's most significant supporters, with an emphasis on annual asks above $5,000. The VP will secure unrestricted and restricted funds from individuals and institutions and through fundraising events. The Vice President assists in identifying local individuals with fundraising acumen to either sit on the Board, a Board Committee or be involved in a fundraising cabinet capacity. Currently all 30 Board Member and 11 Honorary Life Board Members make financial contributions.
Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Development is one of three Vice Presidents comprising Family Service's senior leadership. The VP of Development directs and coordinates the Development team, consisting of three full-time staffers, outside consultants and additional part time help.
* Develop with the President an annual plan and budget for the
implementation of the development strategy, which includes annual appeals,
direct mail, email solicitations, collaterals including web, events, and
volunteer engagement.
* Ensure the successful cultivation and solicitation of the organization's most
significant donors. Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major donor
prospects. Coordinate all efforts closely in conjunction with the President.
* Prioritize prospects, research their interests and capacity, and identify
individualized strategy for cultivation, solicit and follow-up. Develop written
strategies, coordinate nature of contacts that assigned prospects receive.
Facilitate relationships between potential and current donors and senior staff,
board, volunteers and others. Review and refine prospect strategies regularly.
* Identify additional opportunities for revenue generation through donor
research and prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation in
conjunction with the President and Development Committee of the Board.
* Coordinate and manage stewardship process to maintain the best possible
relationships with donors.
* In consultation with the President, create and supervise implementation of
small targeted events for assigned prospects and donors. This may include a
series of "behind the scenes" events or the creation of an advisory
committee or other format that will motivate, engage and educate prospects and
donors.
* Staff the Board Development Committee.
* Coordinate and, when invited, providing strategic support for the
organization's three auxiliaries.
* Oversee the day-to-day management of the Development office/budget. Works
with outside consultants in direct mail and other areas.
* Report on the progress of fundraising efforts to the President and Board.
Essential:
* Five years fundraising experience with three or more years of experience in
development management.
* Three or more years experience in major gift fund raising.
* Demonstrated experience and success in face-to-face solicitation of five- and
six- figure individual gifts.
* Ability to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for
Major Gifts from individuals, as well as the ability to establish measurable
goals and objectives to achieve them.
* Strong communication (oral, written, presentation) and organizational skills.
* Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a group/team.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and plan work to maximize efficiency.
* Willingness and ability to travel locally.
* Proficiency with MS Office, Internet research, information systems and
prospect databases.
* "Can do" attitude and outgoing personality.
* Ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels.

social entrepreneurial efforts

* Experience soliciting foundation grants.
Personal
* Ability to clear criminal background checks before first day of
employment.
* Verification to legally work in the US.
* Valid California driver's license with a good insurable driving record,
regular access to a vehicle for making visits, and appropriate insurance.
