ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Episcopal Senior Communities (ESC) provides housing and services with respect and dignity to seniors, supports independence and self worth, and encourages continued intellectual, physical, social and spiritual growth.  ESC had annual revenues of $97,000,000 in the 2010-11 fiscal year, of which $1,200,000 came from contributions and grants raised by the ESC Foundation (ESCF).

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Giving identifies, solicits and cultivates relationships with individuals, foundations and corporations that result in major gifts to the Foundation.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Organizational Advancement, the position does not have staff supervisory responsibilities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide overall coordination and direction of capital, individual, annual, and benevolence giving.
* Prepare and implement annual giving plan and budget.
* Identify, cultivate and solicit individual donors.
* Direct the strategies, tactics, and implementation of major gift solicitations. Participate in major donor solicitations.
* Work with the Fundraising Manager to ensure appropriate stewardship of all gifts.
* Develop an annual budget, monitor expenses, and allocate resources in the most effective manner.
* Target and solicit companies for in-kind and cash donations and sponsorships.
* Oversee special events.
* Prepare written proposals and/or other presentation materials for use during donor cultivation and solicitation.
* Identify new potential donors by prospecting with current donors, residents, board members, volunteers, and other community members.
* Plan, organize and implement activities to expand current donors and cultivate new prospects.
* Maintain accurate and complete records of all donor visits, interests, relevant fundraising information, and next steps in the process within the donor database.
* Develop effective working relationships across the organization, particularly with organization leadership and within ESCF.
* Design and implement special activities, events, and programs to increase awareness of ESCF's need for major gifts in the overall support and continuing excellence of its work in the community.
* Assist in developing and implementing a coherent program of various communication materials to recognize donors and inform potential and current donors about ESCF.
* Generate and oversee methods to identify prospective donors, initiate programs and activities, and solicit and utilize volunteers.
* Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Five to seven years experience in fundraising, with at least two years of successful, direct experience working with major gift prospects
* Demonstrated success in securing large individual gifts
* Track record of success in leading volunteers to cultivate and solicit major gift prospects
* Familiarity with planned giving programs and financial vehicles
* Direct experience in accomplishing successful capital campaigns
* Understanding of corporate and foundation grant application processes
* Superior oral and written communication skills
* Knowledge of development principles, fundraising techniques, and ethics
* Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with potential donors, staff and constituents, local businesses, and professional colleagues in similar organizations
* Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to residents in a productive and non-intrusive way
* Ability to work successfully in a participatory and collaborative environment, with a strong team orientation
* Ability to understand and work within organizational objectives and to communicate these objectives with enthusiasm to potential donors
* Ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and cultures
* Excellent computer skills, including competency with internet research, fundraising databases, and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
* Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
