Located in Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County, CuriOdyssey has undergone a major reinvention in the past four years that has transformed the organization into a vital, kid-centric interactive science museum and California native animal center whose purpose is to provide up-close and personal experiences with the natural world. The organization boasts a strategic and engaged board of trustees, visionary leadership and a talented, energetic and entrepreneurial staff.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Development will manage all aspects of fundraising including the planning, organization, and implementation of a capital and endowment campaign.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Executive Director, the position supervises a Development Manager and a Data Manager.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

* Manage the planning, organization, and implementation of a capital and endowment campaign.
* Create and implement a fund development plan with particular emphasis on individual fundraising.
* Conduct solicitation of major gifts ($1,000+), with particular emphasis on gifts of $10,000 or more.
* Oversee and develop government, corporate, and foundation grant requests.
* Work closely with the board of trustees to facilitate board fundraising. Provide regular fundraising training to board members.
* Develop and maintain a robust planned giving program.
* Participate as a member of the senior management team.
* Manage, mentor, and lead the development staff.
* Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

* CFRE or equivalent experience
* 3 - 5 years experience in a senior development role
* Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals and initiatives
* Experience leading major campaign projects
* Experience soliciting major gifts
* Experience with the full donor cycle – identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
* Knowledge of the local philanthropic community, and state and federal resources
* Experience with fundraising databases (working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred)
* Passion for and familiarity with science-based organizations or museums
* Experience with board fundraising training
