BLUM CENTER FOR DEVELOPING
ECONOMIES |
ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Blum Center for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley was established in 2006 to increase the impact of the university's unique
expertise to address the challenges of global poverty. Propelled by the energy and talent of faculty and students committed to helping the nearly three billion
people who live on less than two dollars a day, the Blum Center is focused on finding solutions to the most pressing needs of the poor.
Blum Center multidisciplinary innovation teams are working to deliver safe water and sanitation solutions in eight countries; life-saving mobile services
throughout Africa and Asia; and new efficient energy technologies that minimize adverse environmental impacts. At the same time, the Center is educating the next
generation of global citizens. The Center's Global Poverty & Practice undergraduate minor is the largest minor on campus, giving students the knowledge and
real-world experience to become dynamic participants in the fight against poverty. Students take a variety of new courses and participate directly in poverty
alleviation efforts in more than 40 developing countries.
